As we are seeing with all minimally invasive surgery currently being done (hip, knee, spine, etc.), recovery is much faster than with previous, fully open operations. The same is true for minimally invasive heart surgery.
Typical recovery for a open chest heart surgery is 6-9 months, often longer. As we have seen with our patients having these procedures done with minimally invasive heart surgery procedures, we are now typically seeing our patients returning to normal activities in about 2 weeks. This has an impact on the patient, their families and caregivers, as well as the communities that they live in.
Faster recovery also helps combat depression, and minimize financial stress.
